Medellín Flower Festival 2026: the complete guide to live it like a paisa

There are two Medellíns: the year-round one and the one of early August. If you visit between July 31 and August 9, 2026, you will not find the usual calm city — you will find a city in full celebration: flowers on every corner, music in all 16 comunas, parades closing entire avenues and a wave of national tourism arriving from Bogotá, Cartagena, Cali, Manizales, Pereira and Santa Marta for what paisas consider the most important week of the year. When and what is the 2026 Flower Festival?

The Feria de las Flores runs July 31 to August 9, 2026, with over 200 public events — more than half of them free. Born in 1957, its heart are the silleteros of Santa Elena: mountain farmers who carry flower arrangements on their backs — silletas that can exceed 100 kilos. What began as a tribute to the countryside became the week when all of Medellín covers itself in flowers.

The Silleteros Parade: the grand finale

The most important day is the last one: Sunday, August 9, the 69th edition of the Desfile de Silleteros. 530 silleteros will walk down Avenida El Poblado carrying their works on their shoulders, competing in five categories: traditional, monumental, commercial, emblematic and artistic. Seeing it live gives you goosebumps: behind every silleta there is a Santa Elena family that has grown flowers for generations. Arrive early — the best spots fill up hours ahead — and note that the avenue and its surroundings in El Poblado close to traffic that day.

The other parades you should not miss

The opening is July 31 at the Obelisco, and on Saturday, August 1 the inaugural parade rolls down Avenida Regional. On Sunday the 2nd come the chivas: the colorful countryside buses, dressed in flowers, with music on board. On Friday, August 7, everyone's favorite: the Classic and Antique Car Parade, hundreds of collector machines rolling slowly between applause — pure elegance on wheels. And on Saturday the 8th, the Super Concert fills the Atanasio Girardot stadium, half a block from La 70, which that night becomes one single party.

Santa Elena: visit the farms where silletas are born

The Festival's best-kept secret is not in the city but on the mountain: in Santa Elena, the silletero farms open their doors to show how the flowers are grown and how a silleta is assembled piece by piece. You can share with the families, see the days of work behind each piece and stay for the Noche Silletera. You get there via the Santa Elena road or by combining it with Parque Arví on the Metrocable — the perfect half-day plan in mountain weather.

Flowers all over the city (for free)

The 2026 novelty are the Flower Plazas: free spaces with flowers, crafts and local food at Parques del Río, Parque de los Deseos and, for the first time, the MAMM in Ciudad del Río. Add the National Trova Festival at Plaza Gardel, music stages in every comuna and the Night Cultural Park: the whole city is the stage.

The secret to getting around during the Festival: the electric bike

Let's be honest: during the Festival many streets close and traffic multiplies across the city. A car or taxi can take an hour for what is normally 15 minutes. The smartest way to see Medellín on those days?
