Parque Norte is the city's classic amusement park, open since 1979, with several generations of paisas who grew up going. It does not compete with the big international parks and does not try to: it is an urban, accessible and very local park, tucked into the same corridor as the Botanical Garden, Parque Explora and the University of Antioquia.
What to see & do
1. The rides
Roller coaster, drop tower, swing ride, bumper cars and a decent spread of attractions aimed at children and teenagers. Nothing extreme, but enough for a full afternoon.
2. The water area
The park has a pool and slide area, which on hot days is the busiest part of the whole site.
3. The lake
An artificial lake with pedal boats in the middle of the park, the quietest corner of the place and a good fit for small children.
4. The cultural surroundings
It sits right beside the Botanical Garden, Parque Explora with its aquarium, and the Planetarium. This is Medellín's leisure and science corridor, and you can chain several plans without taking transport.
5. The local atmosphere
There is practically no foreign tourism here. It is an outing for Medellín families, school groups and groups of friends — and that is precisely its appeal if you want to see the real city.
