For more than twenty years Parque Lleras has been the centre of Medellín's nightlife. It sits in the heart of El Poblado, five minutes from Provenza, and packs dozens of bars, clubs and restaurants around a small leafy square. It is probably the most international spot in the city and also the most talked about: it is worth arriving knowing what it is and what it is not.
What to see & do
1. The square and its edges
A small, tree-shaded park completely ringed by venues. By day it is quiet and shady; by night it becomes the meeting point and people fill the whole square before heading inside.
2. The bars and clubs
From small cocktail bars to large clubs playing electronic music, reggaeton or salsa. There is something for every taste and the line-up changes constantly: places open and close fast.
3. The restaurants around it
The perimeter of Lleras and the streets running off it hold much of Medellín's international cooking. This is where it is easiest to eat something that is not Colombian food.
4. How it differs from Provenza
They are five minutes apart on foot and they are not the same thing. Provenza is cafés, design shops and restaurants; Lleras is bars and clubs. Plenty of people looking for atmosphere without a heavy party end up preferring Provenza.
5. The local alternatives
If what you want is to see how people from Medellín go out, rather than the tourist circuit, Carrera 70 in Laureles is another story: more paisa, cheaper and with far less tourism.

- Getting there: metro line A to Poblado station, then a taxi or ride app, because walking up is about twenty-five minutes uphill.
- When to go: Thursday to Saturday from nine at night is when it is in full swing. By day it is practically empty.
- Safety: this is the busiest party area in the city and it deserves to be taken seriously. Go with company, never let your drink out of sight, do not accept drinks from strangers, and always return by taxi or ride app, never walking in the small hours.
- Prices: it is the most expensive area in Medellín for a night out. An evening here costs considerably more than in Laureles or downtown.
- One piece of advice: if you are travelling alone, tell someone where you are and avoid carrying the party on to places you do not know with people you have just met.
- Alternatives: Provenza for atmosphere without a heavy party, and Carrera 70 for a local and cheaper night.

Is Parque Lleras safe?
By day there is no issue at all. At night it is a very busy party area and the precautions are real: go with company, watch your drink and return in reliable transport. It is not an area to avoid, but it is one to stay alert in.
